Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder on Sale

Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder

Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder

The most important point of any range finder is to provide accurate distances to an object, be it a tree, a bunker or the flag.  You need this information to select the appropriate club for the distance required.

The Popular Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder

The Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder does exactly that, it can measure an impressive 1,000 yards (to a reflector), find the exact distance to an object, for example a tree at a maximum of 750 yards, and uses it’s “Pinseaker” technology to find the flag up to 250 yards.

The Medalist model weighs just 9 ounces, the unit measures 1.7 x 4.5 x 3.8 inches and because Bushnell always supplies a battery with their range finders is it ready to be used right out-of-the-box (nothing more frustrating than having a new toy and no batteries!). The Medalist’s advanced technology even compensates for precipitation to guarantee an accurate distance measurement through both rain and snow.

Using a range finder allows you to play like the Professionals, the pros plan their shots to give them the best chance of a birdie.  With the information provided by the Bushnell Medalist Laser, you can plan where your next shot should land hopefully avoiding trouble, as opposed to hitting the ball as far as you can, often catching one of the many traps.  And it works whether I you have tree cover or cloud cover as well. All you need is line of sight to the object you want the distance to. NOTE: distance readings can be in either yards or meters.

Knowing what the required distance is (and matching the club you need for this distance) to hit into the safer areas of the course, will in itself help to reduce your score.  So it’s vital that you are willing to spend the time at the driving range to work out what you’re reliable distances with every club you carry in your golf bag.

The Bushnell Medalist Laser Rangefinder; Points to Note

The Bushnell laser range finder is very popular because of its compact size and long battery life, the 9v battery is readily available at stores everywhere, so keep a spare just in case.  The unit also comes with its own carry case, however some people have reported that it is a little flimsy, a solution to this problem is to use a suitable camera case (you want to protect your investment don’t you).

The big advantage with all laser range finders is that the units are obviously portable and can be therefore be used on any course, anytime. Unlike GPS units that rely on downloads or subscription service (most but not all GPS units need updating at some point).

Finally a big feature of The Bushnell Medalist Laser Range Finder is that it is legal for tournament play and for posting of scores recorded for handicap purposes, remember not all of the models are.

The Bushnell Golf GPS & Laser Rangefinder Review

The new Bushnell golf GPS and Laser combined Rangefinder is the world’s first combined laser rangefinders and global positioning system (GPS) in one unit.  This model is very versatile, it combines the latest technology of a laser rangefinder enabling the unit to accurately measure the exact distance to any visible point on the course within +/- 1 yard accuracy (including the flag), when you do not have a direct line of site to a target and you need to determine the distance to it, the golf GPS option is perfect in this situation, by providing distances to the front, middle and back of the green. This is very convenient having one device rather than only having one option to choose from.

No longer do you have to decide laser or GPS?  you can have the best of both systems within one unit. With the Bushnell golf combination solution you can save money by not having to buy two different devices, but as you would expect the hybrid is slightly more expensive.  You can still use whichever type of information you prefer, however when the need arises you will now have another option to help determine the required distance.

The golf laser unit boasts the advanced “pinseeker” technology, this helps you find the exact distance to the pin by locking onto the target directly.  The rangefinder does this by eliminating the background stuff like trees, club house buildings etc. and quickly identifying the flag making this a very easy to use device.

The Bushnell Golf GPS Rangefinder Unit is also legal for tournament play. The Bushnell brand of golf rangefinders are highly recommended, these rangefinders are trusted and used by more than 90% of PGA professionals on the PGA, LPGA and Champions tours. If it’s good enough for the Pro’s I think all golfers should have one of these devices in their golf bag.

The 5x magnification makes it easy to find what you’re looking to measure by providing a clear sharp image. This is very helpful when using the scan mode, just look through the eyepiece and scan the course, the rangefinder will display the distances to every target you pass over, when you have selected the target you want you will have an accurate distance to that target.

The Bushnell golf laser / GPS unit comes complete with over 16,000+ pre-loaded golf courses in North America (NOTE: you have to register within 45 days of purchase to activate the course data), this is great if you play at one of these golf courses.  But what if you don’t?  Well you can even map your own course as you play including distances to the front, middle or back of the green along with other features on the course e.g. bunkers, water, trees etc.  Of course the laser option can be used anywhere.

You don’t have to continuously re-enter data into the GPS unit when playing a course, the GPS unit will automatically move onto the next hole, based on your current position on the golf course, this makes the GPS extremely easy to operate. The good news is that you only pay for the unit, there are no on-going download fees or monthly subscription charges, pay once and that’s it, this is a very important feature as on-going costs can be expensive.

Conclusion

If you are new to range finding devices and are not sure which way to go you could do a lot worse that pick the Bushnell golf GPS and Laser combined Rangefinder, this way you will have the best of both worlds, you can’t lose.

The Leupold GX-1 Pedigree.

The Leupold GX-1 range finder features extremely good build quality from a long established firm, Leupold & Stevens Inc. L&S is a manufacturer of telescopic sights, red dot sights, spotting scopes, and binoculars located in Beaverton, Oregon, United States.  The company, started in 1907, is family owned and has been run by five generations of the family.  They supply gun scopes to organizations such as the United States Army, the Secret Service, and the Navy SEALS, The United States Navy and the Marine Corps also use their scopes.

The compact size, it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, and is especially useful for anyone with smaller hands (for example ladies and youths). This makes the GX-1 simple to use with only one hand, handy if you need to hold an umbrella when it’s raining.  The compact and lightweight range finder, is also easy to store either in the golf bag, or attached with its compact durable case that has a clip at the top. This rugged and well made range finder weighs only 6.8oz, so is very light to carry around the course.

The function of any golf range finder is to help you determine the distance to any object on the course, when driving off you need to know how far any hazards are etc.  The rangefinder’s Scan mode produces multiple readings with one quick sweep, a quick sweep of the fairway will help you determine the safest place to drive to.  It can help you decide when to go for a shot or play safe and layup.  This feature alone can help lower your score just by cutting out the wasted dropped shots, caused by missjudgement of distance.  The Leupold GX-1 laser is especially helpful on approach shots to the green, with its PinHunter technology the cross-hairs lock on the pin for an accurate readout.

Helpful tip for the Leupold GX-1

Its one thing knowing the exact distance to a target, but it’s another thing being able to accurately hit it.  One way to help figure this out is to take your Leupold range finder with you to the driving range and measure the distances you hit each club. Once you know your average distances you should know the correct club to select every time the rangefinder gives you a distance.

The Leupold GX-1 has a maximum range of 750 yards for objects with a reflective target or prism, and 350 yards to the pin.  The Leupold range finder can also display the measured distances in yards or meters.  The GX-1 is weatherproof and even operates in fog, not every rangefinder on the market has this feature. The battery is good for approx 10,000 actuation’s.

Overall the Leupold GX-1 range finder is very robust and easy to operate golf range finder.

What makes the Callaway Range Finder LR550 so good?

Calaway has teamed up with Nikon to produce a well designed lightweight golf laser rangefinder, the result is the Callaway Range Finder L550.  It is available in two colors; Yellow or White, both have a  carabineer  for easy access and a matching neoprene sport sleeve with a removable travel cover. With the choice of the two vibrant colors, you definitely won’t forget to take it with you.  The only downside is that it is also easy to spot for potential thieves, you have been warned.

As a prestigious golf manufacturer, Callaway obviously chose an equally prestigious electronics manufacturer specializing in optics and imaging.  Nikon’s range of products includes cameras, binoculars, microscopes and measurement instruments an obvious company to partner with; and the result was the exceptional Callaway LR550 golf rangefinder.  This laser range-finder is accurate on any golf course in the world without any downloads (no need for expensive monthly subscriptions) . It runs on a 3-volt lithium battery (inexpensive and widely available) and is good for approx 1,000 readings, however I still recommend having a spare battery as you never know when you may need it.

The Callaway golf rangefinder LR550 dosen’t just look the part, it boasts a host of useful features, the eyepiece is fully adjustable (with a folding rubber eyecup for eyeglass wearers), making the rangefinder very comfortable to use. This is a very important feature as it needs to feel comfortable and avoid the need for any complicated adjustments and be fully adjustable to the individual user.  The Callaway L550 is accurate up to an impressive 500 yards. privacy

The operation of the Callaway laser rangefinder is extremely simple, one button turns it on, then puts it in scan mode for 8 seconds.  The 8 second scan mode allows the golfer to look around and decide what they measure, “can I clear the nearest hazard and stop before I reach the second hazard?” Let the Callaway golf range finder help you make the choice easier by helping you decide which club to select.

The LED display is easy to read in bad light and is simple to understand, no one needs too much complicated information while playing golf. The Callaway LR 550 golf range finder is also waterproof so you can use it with confidence even in wet weather. Note while the unit itself is waterproof, as with the majority of rangefinders the battery compartment is not.  I recommend you use the protective sleeve to help overcome this shortfall.

Product Features:

  • Laser rangefinder designed to help golfers gauge distances on the course
  • Quickly and accurately measures the pin or hazard from up to 550 yards
  • First target mode displays range to nearest target amidst several options
  • Built-in reticle and LCD display; 6x monocular with long eye relief
  • Runs on 3-volt lithium battery (included); comes with matching neoprene sport sleeve

Overall the Callaway range finder LR550 is a solid investment for any serious golfer wishing to improve their accuracy on the golf course.

Bushnell Tour V2 Golf Rangefinder

Bushnell Tour V2 Golf Rangefinder

The Bushnell Tour V2 Golf Laser Rangefinder is one of the top best-selling models on the market today. But don’t be fooled, despite being one of the world’s smallest rangefinders, weighing a tiny 6.6 ounces, the compact design contains one of the most advanced models available.

Click Here For a Great Deal On The Bushnell Tour V2

Why choose the Bushnell Tour V2 Golf Laser Rangefinder?

The unit’s small lightweight design makes the Tour model extremely easy to handle and it fits snugly into the palm of one hand.  The convenient size of the unit also means it is easy to carry and can fit into any readily accessible pocket in your golf bag, or clipped to the outside of the golf bag with the pouch (supplied with the unit) this saves time looking for it in one of the many golf bag pockets and keeps it readily available.

Obviously the prime function of any golf laser range finder is to provide quick and accurate information to the golfer without any fuss. The Tour V2 unit is extremely easy to understand, just point to the target and read the distance.  While this particular Tour model boasts a maximum accuracy range of 1,000 yards, the effective maximum range for objects is 700 yards, long enough for most golf holes.  When using this device to measure the distance to the flag this is usually done under the recommended maximum of 300 yards.  This model is accurate to +/- 1 yard, If only I could hit a golf ball with that accuracy!  The rangefinder is not dependent on downloads or subscription services and works on any course.

The high 5x magnification makes the new Tour models easy to find what you’re looking for, and of course it’s not restricted to looking at the pin.  This can be used to find the distance to any object on the course, trees, bunkers, water hazards etc. therefore helping you avoid these traps.  Why not make the most of this information to personalize your course map with your new accurate game plan.  The golf range finder can be used in all conditions dull, sunny or even rain and is not dependent on reflectors.

This rangefinder also features the fantastic Bushnell “pinseeker” technology that allows it to lock onto the flag while ignoring any background (trees, buildings etc.). The V2′s pinseeker function is a must have feature to provide the golfer an accurate distance directly to the pin.

Note: These types of devices are legal to use in tournament play and for recording your score for handicap purposes.

The Bushnell Tour laser model uses a CR-2 3-volt lithium battery. The CR 2 3 volt battery should last for long time but should be changed every 12 months, these 3-volt lithium batteries are readily available locally or you can find them on Amazon (from $4 to $8 for a multipack).  Important, make sure you carry a spare one in your golf bag or Tour V2 case as you can guarantee it will fail just when you need it!

This model is currently available in two colors Silver or White color I believe a new Limited Edition Cherry Red version will be available in early June 2011, so preorder now.  If you wish to personalize you unit further a selection of Bushnell Skins are also available in several colors: orange, red, blue, Pink, White and Yellow for less than $20.

UPDATE: The new “Cherry Red” version of the V2 is now available.

Golf Range Finder Reviews & Benefits

There are some critical points to note when choosing your golf rangefinder  measuring device.  The objective is to find a model that suits all of your requirements and is within your price range.  The models referred to in these series of golf range finder reviews are among the best selling models on the market today.

Golf Range Finder Reviews of Important Features to Consider.

The most important feature of any golf rangefinder is to provide quick accurate data to the golfer.  This is especially important with your second or approach shots to the green, as this is where club selection on the course is most important.  On Par 4 or Par 5 holes usually you generally want to hit the ball as far as possible, however a laser rangefinder can help here by displaying the distance to a hazard, or how far you need to carry the ball over water etc.

A feature to consider is the size and weight of the unit you are concidering to purchase, some range models are lightweight like the Bushnell Tour V2 Golf Laser Rangefinders, the V2 also has a handy clip on case that attaches to your bag, so it’s readily available when needed.  Other models feature a compact design, perfect for people with smaller hands or those who struggle to hold bulkier models.  These models can even fit into a jacket pocket if required, ideal if you have to walk away from your bag or cart for any reason.

Whichever of the laser golf rangefinders you choose it should be easy to operate, an example is the Leupold GX-1 Digital Golf Rangefinder is very user friendly and easy to operate, you don’t want to spend a long time reading complicated golf range finder review manual.  It’s important to make sure it’s easy to use.  Some gps rangefinders require a subscription to a mapping service and you have to download the different courses onto the gps device.  This is OK if you only play on the courses that are in the system, but not good if you regularly visit different golf clubs, personally I would choose a model that does not rely on this kind of subscription service. Newer models of GPS rangefinders will allow the golfer to add their own course, hole by hole, with up to four features mapped per hole, giving you control to map the key features on the course you regularly use.

Some manufacturers are now producing hybrid models that are both a laser and GPS in one unit, this allows the golfer to use the mode that best fits the hole they are playing, without carrying or indeed purchasing two units (refer to the article on the Bushnell Hybrid)

Unfortunately it’s not possible to play golf in perfect weather all the time. We all have to play in wet conditions occasionally, You may need your golf range finder specifications to include a fully waterproof or at least a rainproof feature.  The Bushnell Pro 1600 Golf Laser Rangefinder and the Callaway LR550 Rangefinder by Nikon are examples of waterproof models, the Callaway LR550 laser rangefinder is also available in two colors (Yellow or White) rather than the traditional Black, if you want to be different. To protect your rangefinder you can also purchase cases or skins as they are known for most models.

All these products are obviously battery powered, however they run on a variety of basic battery formats from 3v to 9v.  Thankfully these types of batteries are readily available, and while the battery life will depend on the usage of the individual golfer, best be sure you carry spare batteries. The last thing you want to spoil a good round of golf is a flat battery.  A small number of people have reported that the batteries can fall out due to badly fitting covers; however it appears that if this is the case most people just apply gorilla tape. Further research shows in 2011 this problem seems to be fixed in the latest models and is no longer an issue, in fact a lot of models are supplied with an outer sleeve for protection.  If not these sleeves can be bought separately if required.

But as usual the weakest link in using these golf laser rangefinders is the golfer. Knowing how far you can consistently hit each one of your golf clubs is vital, it’s no good knowing it’s 150 yards to the pin and then not knowing which club to select!

Or you could just be a lucky golfer…
